Inky Leaves

Transylvania

J R SHEPHERD
“I am very excited to say that we have four places available for this unforgettable course set in the beautiful Saxon village of Copșa Mare in Transylvania.”

My class will focus on illustrating leaves of all shapes and sizes in watercolour.

Students will have started their large leaf piece and finished a collection of smaller study pieces over the course of our four days together. We will look at mixing colours, leaf taxonomy and painting composition. Periods of study in the beautiful ‘Pod’ classroom will be balanced with plenty of fresh air, exercise and local food.

The Pod (@podartspace) is a spacious botanical art studio filled with northern light. Students have plenty of space to work in. The classroom sits in the grounds of a private house in Copşa Mare in southern Transylvania. The village is in the middle of tens of thousands of hectares of oak and beech forest, interspersed with traditional farm grasslands exceptionally rich in flora and fauna.

I’m very much looking forward to exploring this rich landscape together with you, learning about the plants and finding samples on which to work.

We might even find a blue flower!
